چکیده

b a ckground: diabetes is an important disease. this disease is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from perturbation in insulin secretion, insulin action or both. honey bee venom contains a wide range of polypeptide agents. the principle components of bee venom are mellitin and phospholipase a2. these components increase insulin secretion from the β-cells of pancreas. this study was conducted to show the hypoglycemic effect of honey bee venom on alloxan induced diabetic male rats. m e t hods: eighteen adult male rats weighting 200±20 g were placed into 3 randomly groups: control, alloxan mono- hydrate-induced diabetic rat and treated group that received honey bee venom daily before their nutrition for four months. forty eight hours after the last injection, blood was collected from their heart, serum was dissented and blood glucose, insulin, triglyceride and total cholesterol were determined. results: glucose serum, triglyceride and total cholesterol level in treated group in comparison with diabetic group was significantly decreased (p< 0.01). on the other hand, using bee venom causes increase in insulin serum in com- parison with diabetic group (p< 0.05). conclusion: honeybee venom (apitoxin) can be used as therapeutic option to lower blood glucose and lipids in dia- betic rats.

Effect of Honey Bee Venom (Apis mellifera) on Hyperglycemia and Hyperlipidemia in Alloxan Induced Diabetic Rabbits

Introduction: In diabetes therapy, a great attention is paid on lowering blood glucose levels and lipid regulating mechanisms of various medical agents including animal toxins. Honey bee venom reduces blood glucose level through increased insulin secretion and glucose take-up. It also has lipid regulating activity verified in several other studies. For that reason, bee venom could be considered...

Honey Bee Venom (Apis mellifera) Contains Anticoagulation Factors and Increases the Blood-clotting Time.

OBJECTIVES Bee venom (BV) is a complex mixture of proteins and contains proteins such as phospholipase and melittin, which have an effect on blood clotting and blood clots. The mechanism of action of honey bee venom (HBV, Apis mellifera) on human plasma proteins and its anti-thrombotic effect were studied. The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-coagulation effect of BV and its ef...

Study on anti inflammatory effect of subcutaneous honey bee venom injection and dermal application of cream containing honey bee venom in adjuvant-induced arthritic rats

Honey bee sting is used in some societies as a treatment of inflammation in joint diseases such as arthritis. To investigate the effect of honey bee venom in reducing inflammation, we selected 30 male Wister rats which were divided in to 6 groups. Except group 1, all remaining groups received 0.5 ml of complete Freund’s adjuvant to induce arthritis. After 9 days, all animals that received adj...

Heterosis in the Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.).

HERE are three castes in the honey bee colony: the drone, queen, and worker. T The latter two are both females. The drone bee is a male, representing a haploid gamete of the queen bee heading his hive. The honey bee colony is composed of two generations of bees. The queen bee is, in effect, a potent egg-laying machine, while the workers are morphologically and functionally fitted for honey and ...
